Can someone PLEASE explain scientific variables to me in SIMPLE English?!?

OK, in your experiment you have will have TWO variables. The INDEPENDANT vairiable and The DEPENDANT variable. You only need to remember these two. The INDEPENDANT is the one you control so for example the temperature YOU CONTROL or the amount of water YOU PUT in the beaker. The independant variable is what is controlled by you. Now all you need to know is the DEPENDANT variable. This is NOT CONTROLLED BY YOU. So when you set off the experiment off this cannot be controlled. SO say you did and experiment and you heated some metal over a flame. YOU CONTROL the type and amount of metal, the heat of the flame and length of time, so these are INDEPENDANT variables. Therefore the heat of the metal at the end DEPENDS on these factors, you DO NOT CONTROL IT DIRECTLY. It is the DEPENDANT VARAIBLE. Hope this helps, it a bit confusing, and sorry about all the capitals, I just wanted to highlight the most important bits.
