Can someone please explain romanticism to me please????

Romanticism was a reaction to the rationalism & mechanism of the enlightenment. Rationalism, in philosophy & psychology, relied on cold hard logic & seem to leave no room for emotion & feeling. Mechanistic explanations in the biological sciences seemed to reduce humanity to little more than a clockwork machine & left no room for things like “goodness” & “justice”. There were various strands of romanticism (in literature, in the visual arts, in philosophy & psychology) but all of them stressed the importance of emotion & feeling. It would be an anachronism, but the 20th century saying “Sex & drugs & rock ‘n roll” could have been a slogan for th romantics.
