Can someone please explain Donnie Darko?
It depends on how good your grasp of philosophy is because the explanation is pretty convoluted. The short version of it is this: Yes. Here’s the deal. Essentially Donnie was caught in a wormhole type thing. He was really supposed to die when the piece of plane or UFO fell from the sky. Frank (the bunny) was not supposed to have gotten shot. So Donnie rides up near the golfcourse so he can make sure to jump back into time at the right place. I haven’t seen it in a while but, if she hadn’t said cellar door to him, he wouldn’t have gone there, then the knife guy wouldn’t have been there and the girl wouldn’t haven’t gotten hit by the car. He realized that he had to sacrifice himself for the girl and for Frank b/c it was really him who was supposed to die in the first place. That’s what the paths are all about.
