Can someone help with my goldfish questions please?….?
Goldfish need: A HUGE tank, A good filter their tanks cleaned (30% water change with a gravel siphon) weekly Their filter cartridges cleaned weekly their filter cartridges replaced monthly, A good dechlorinater (StressZyme is mostly for beneficial bacteria for cycling a tank. You need to use AmQuel+ or something like that) If you have all that, you should be good. I personally gave up on taking care of goldfish because they are considered some of the “dirtiest” fish–they need the most amount of room for fish their size. The fancy goldfish need a 15 gallon tank (at first) and if you want to have comet/common goldfish, you need to have a 55 gallon tank!! (208 litres)!! So I suggest you return your goldfish and get neon tetras or fancy guppies instead–you can put more of them in a tank, they can actually live in a tank that size, and it will be easier for you. The only major difference is that they need a heater, which is pretty inexpensive. Good luck, —FISH!
First, goldfish will eat pieces off the live plants. That’s what mine (in my outdoor pond) live off of in the winter- the algea on the sides of the pond and other submersed plants. Koi will completely destroy live plants so stick with goldfish! You should unfortunately bet on losing at least half of whatever you put in a new tank, plants and fish. As the water cycles this happens less and less, but with a new tank you’ll have some fish loss (maybe). However, that’s not always true. I’ve had to do an emergency switching of tanks (one broke) and had no time to cycle the new one and the fish were fantastic. Goldfish are pretty hardy. It may just be taking that one a few extra days to adjust. African sword plants are very hardy and come in a variety of sizes. They don’t have small leaves so the goldfish won’t be able to totally trash them. As far as feeding goes, you can feed twice a day (flakes or pellets) as much as they’ll eat in 10 minutes. You only need to change 10% of the water (abo
