Council tax – you need to go on your local authority’s website and find that out. I pay about £150 a month but it varies from place to place. If you live alone you may be entitled to a discount of 25%. Water rates – similarly, I pay around £120 a month but may be different in your area Gas – about £30-£50 a month depending on your heating and cooker Electricity – the same as gas Phone – whatever you already pay for your mobile, or about £120 every 3 months for a landline (more if you make calls) Insurance – contents, about £15 a month Food and drink – that’s entirely up to you but allow at least £150 a month if there’s just you. Laundry – if you use the launderette probably £20-£30 a month I guess. If you’re on a low income see if you can get housing benefit (if landlord wll accept that). Good luck in your new home!
