According to federal law, tribes have “right of first refusal” when it comes to adopting a child with American Indian heritage. Our oldest son has 2 tribes in his lineage. We were stuck in California for 2 months waiting on the “powers that be” to make a decision. BTW, he is aware of his culture, which is American.
