Can someone give me some examples of civil disobedience?
Thoreau is the historical example that name always brings up. He allowed himself to be imprisoned for refusal to pay his poll tax. Though I don’t get that from reading his book by that name. “Civil Disobedience.” But from commentaries on the episode that led to him writing it. Modern examples are things like Ridley refusing to pay income tax because of the unconstitutional war, or, more popularly, Melissa Ethridge, pledging to send in a pink slip with the writing “for violations of civil rights” instead of her income taxes because she’s miffed about the difficulties in getting married for gays. More venerated historical examples include blacks sitting in designated white only areas in the old south.
