Can someone give me quotes on the deaths in world war 1 (ww1)?
I would suggest you look for the books compiled by Max Arthur. There are two both entitled ‘Forgotten Voices’ and they are the personal recollections of soldiers. The first is from the First World War and the the other from the Second World War. Both are very readable and an eye opener as you see the wars from the perspectives of the soldiers themselves as opposed to the official version of both wars. A quote from the first book from Private Frank Brent ‘There were dead and wounded of the 3rd Brigade all round and we scampered as hard as we could to a little bit of shelter, dumped our packs and dumped the shovels…we’d had enough of those. Then somebody said ‘Well up you go’ and away we went up the slope. Half way up somebody shouted to me ‘Alan Cordoner’s stopped one’. Alan was one of my best mates and I thought ‘I’m gonna get them’.
