There are dozens of reasons why teenagers shouldn’t get drunk, some of which are covered above. It basically comes down to maturity level, life experience, and even more to the level of brain development at that age (mentioned above). The first two of those may vary substantially by person, but brain development is pretty much the same, and alcohol hurts that development. (For evidence of this, see the American Medical Association’s report linked in my sources.) The argument against allowing teenagers to drink at all is not as strong. Developmentally, a glass of wine or a single beer probably won’t hurt. However, teenagers aren’t widely known for their responsibility and maturity. After all, a teenager’s brain isn’t even fully developed yet! So allowing unsupervised teenage drinking is really just asking for trouble. On the other hand, if a parent wants to give their teenage child a drink, that can be used as an opportunity to help the teenager develop that sense of responsibility. A c
