Can someone give me a basic definition of these American Political terms?

The Right Wing is made up of Conservatives, many of whom are Republicans. The Left Wind is made up of Liberals, many of whom are Democrats. Political party affiliation (Democrat and Republican) does not automatically mean that a person is Liberal or Conservative, since there are many Liberal Republicans and there are also Conservative Democrats. But by definition Democrats are generally Liberal and Republicans are generally Conservative. Right and Left Wing was used to describe where Conservative and Liberal party members sat in the French Parliament. I don’t think that holds in the U.S. Congress but often we hear the term “across the aisle” to indicate which side of the chamber the parties sit.
