Can someone give me 5 AMERICAN folk songs please?
Most of the answers list songs with a known composer, therefore they are not true folk songs, which are passed down through oral tradition. Most American folk songs are actually versions/variants of English, Irish, & Scottish folk songs. These are distintive enough to be called American Folk songs- Tom Dooley (aka Tom Dula), Down In The Willow Garden, The Dreadful Snake, The Erie Canal, Buffalo Skinners.
