Can someone explain what the russian chernobyl incident was?
It was actually in Ukraine. Believe it or not, Ukraine and Russia are two different countries. Something malfunctioned, a reactor melted, something exploded and an enormous plume of radioactive waste polluted much of the air in Eastern Europe and around the world. The area around the Chernobyl Power Plant, mainly the cities of Chernobyl and Pripyat, remain contaminated and hazardous to this day even though the explosion was in 1986.
