Can someone explain the Oedipus concept?

0

It came from the Greek tale of Oedipus Rex, in which the title character kills his father and marries his mother. It was made by Sigmund Frued, a psychologist, part of his Theory of Psychosexual development. When a child [boy] is around the age of 6, in the phallic stage, he develops an innate sexual attraction for his mother. But, he is afraid that his father, who is stronger than him, would “de-masculitize” the boy to punish him. So he imitates his father to prevent the punishment, imitates his masculinity and moves away from the mother. Btw, the stages came from his own experiences, Freud wrote in his notebook, that around that age, he got caught by his father masturbating and the father threatened him that he would “de-masculitize” him.
