Can someone explain the “Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allen Poe to me?
Ok, Amontillado is a very prized wine and this is during carnival which is when everybody does what they want and then repents for it. Montresor is trying to kill Fortunato because Fortunato has backstabbed him. Montresor knows that during this carnival season, there is not going to be large amounts of Amontillado just laying around and he also knows that Fortunato loves a good wine when he can get his hands on one. So, Montresor lures him deep into the cave, having set everything up. Like not having any servants in the house, to strategically placing “casks” of Amontillado in the places, so that Fortunato would get himself drunk and not be able to thinks straight. So, Montresor continually offers him wine and then traps him in with bricks so that there is no oxygen left. Hope it helps and God Bless!
