Can someone briefly tell describe the 4 types of Tissues in the body?
epithelial – layers of cells that cover surfaces of either body cavities or other tissues – functions in protection and regulation of exchange and transport, also secretion – classified by cell shape (squamous, cuboidal, columnar) and number of layers (simple, stratified, or pseudostratified) – by the outermost layer of cells connective – majority of the tissue is made of extracellular matrix (ecm), which is secreted by cells and determines the function of the tissue – different types of fibers are collagen, elastic, and reticular – different types of connective tissue are bone, blood, cartilage, and adipose (fat) muscle – excitable tissue, works off of electrical charges, has minimal ecm -skeletal muscle (found in basically anything you can move by thinking about it) – attaches to bones via tendons – each cell is an individual fiber (up to 12 cm long) – each fiber (cell) can be multinucleate due to fusion of cells – many (thousands) of fibers running parallel form a muscle – controlle
