Can somebody who speaks cantonese Chinese understand somebody?

first we look at people who speak Mandarin Chinese. The population is very big and majority of them in China. Other than Mandarin Chinese as their official language, they have their native dialects. Chances they exposed to Cantonese is very very slim. For these people to understand Cantonese is very difficult since most of them are not exposed to Cantonese. on the other hand, look at Cantonese speakers. a very big portion of them is in China and Hong Kong which have very high exposure to Mandarin Chinese.. Also now the China people are flooding the immigration offices of all countries, you get to hear more and more Chinatown people speaking Mandarin, even if they don’t speak well, they do understand Mandarin.
