All three pieces of software that you mentioned are very good. I personally use Cubase. If you are just looking to record a synth straight onto a computer, you don’t have to spend so much. I use a program called Cool Edit which is very effective for straightforward recording purposes and basic arrangements. It’s dirt cheap as well. You can download a lot of this software for free if you know where to look – not that I’d ever do that personally, but I know people who have 😉 . Your main concern should be the type of soundcard and synth you use. My soundcard is a DMX6Fire. It only costs about £40 now and is very useful for recording both Audio and Midi. Personally, I would invest in a real synth as opposed to a Midi emulator. I’ve always found Midi very difficult and fiddly to work with (especially when I first started out), however real synths tend to be more expensive. Thats just my opinion though.
