Can somebody give me a list of perennial plants to grow in Melbourne?
“Melbourne” is a very big area, and covers suburbs and towns with varying temperatures. e.g. a plant which may thrive in the south near the coast (Portsea) will not be able to stand the frosts further north. There is another major factor to be considered if you are choosing plants for your garden–water. Water restrictions are very severe and have resulted in the demise of many a beautiful garden. When finally deciding on plants, this must be a serious issue. I would advise that you take a look at gardens in your neighbourhood to see what is doing well. Your local nursery can also advise on this. Take a stroll in the Botanical Gardens–Australian shrubs and trees are prevalent there. These are a good choice as they are quite resilient as far as moisture is concerned, and there are many beautiful varieties from which to choose. Hope this helps.
