Medusa Medusa was a beautiful woman who was caught doing something inappropriate in Athena’s temple, so Athena changed her in a mortal with snakes for hair and extreme beauty (unlike some accounts say). anyone who saw her would turn to stone, so she couldn’t be with anyone except her immortal sisters. She was later killed by Theseus, I believe. Tantalus Tantalus was a man who dared to mock and dishonor the gods. To trick the gods, he 1) coked his son, Pelops, and gave him as food at the gods’ banquet, or 2) he tried to share the ambrosia, food of the gods, with other humans. He was punished by dangling him from a tree just above a river, so when he was thirsty and reached out for the water, he couldn’t get it. And when he was hungry, the fruit form the tree was just out of his reach. The word ‘tantalize’ comes from such punishment. Echo a nymph named Echo was a very talkative nymph.
