Can some one name famous female guitarists….?
Run a google search on Memphis Minnie, who wrote the song “Chauffeur Blues” back in the thirties. She probably comes closer to being a well known guitarist than anyone else you are likely to find, with the possible exception of Bonnie Raitt.. You might also take a look at the Wilson Sisters of Heart, one of whom is a decent rhythm guitarist. There were also two guitar bands composed entirely of females who might interest you, the Go Gos and the Runaways. I also suggest you find out all you can about Bessie Smith, although she was a singer and did not also play guitar. She just might be the most influencial female musician of the century just passed, and it makes more sense to look at female musicians as a group than to try to find a woman who is famous for being a female guitarist. Guitar playing is still the province of males, although that too is slowly changing. That should keep you busy, and you do have the basis for an interesting project.
