Can solitary confiinement/segregation be requested?
yes. You can request segregation under prison rule 45 on the grounds that you may be at risk in general prison population. It is not however an automatic right. As for solitary confinement, you cannot ask for it, but there are two ways to get it. Firstly, assault a prison officer or be seen to assault another inmate. This will get you taken down to the segregation unit for administrative segregation, which is basically where you are locked away for 23 hours of the day. The second option is when taken into reception upon entry into prison you will be given a cell-sharing risk assessment. During this, express as many racist and homophobic views as you possibly can, and also talk to yourself and infer that you hear voices telling you to murder. This is guaranteed to get you your own cell and also you will probably be left alone by other prisoners.
