Can silage be over inoculated?

0

Yes, if over inoculated with a lactic acid-producing type of inoculant, it may result in a fermentation that has poor antifungal properties. These silages undergo a rapid, initial fermentation phase; however, when opened they heat extremely rapidly due to yeasts degrading the lactic acid molecules and causing DM losses. However, the reverse occurs more often than not, as many types of silage are under inoculated.
