Yes. Babies born to mothers who abuse sedatives during their pregnancy may be physically dependent on the drugs and show withdrawals symptoms shortly after they are born.Their symptoms may include breathing difficulties,feeding problems disturbed sleep, sweating, irritability, and fever. Many sedative-hypnotics pass through the placenta easily and have caused birth defects and behavioral problems in babies born to women who have abused these drugs during their pregnancy.
