Can Schools Integrate Vocational and Academic Learning?

0

Every person is their own individual, each of them look differently, talk differently, and most of all, learn differently. These individuals should not be left behind simply because they learn in a different way. Some people are not cut out for the academic areas in school. In the 1990’s the United States Secretary of Labor, Lynn Martin organized what we now call the SCANS (Secretary’s Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills) Report. This reports intention is to integrate career related skills into the education system, however it may be more difficult to implement than it was once thought to be.
