Can ScholasticPortal be operated using alternate technologies (MySQL, Oracle, PHP, etc)?
ScholasticPortal is currently only available with Microsoft Technologies. There are several reasons for this. First, the .NET framework on which ScholasticPortal is based has significantly better performance than competitive technologies. Second, and perhaps most importantly, ScholasticPortal provides users with a clear line of accountability for product performance and support. Liquid feels that this is a key issue to assess when placing any data in the public domain, and should be addressed by any comprehensive IT plan. It should be noted that if your school district does not operate Microsoft web servers, it is still possible to purchase and operate ScholasticPortal. ScholasticPortal can be run through an Application Service Provider (ASP). Most ASP’s support Microsoft technologies, and can also provide disaster recovery, secure computing and vaults, routine maintenance, etc. at a very reasonable cost.
