For direct native access to SAP NetWeaver BI using BICS, SAP NW BI 7.0 is required. XMLA-based access to 3.x releases or to BI 7.0 releases that only use the ABAP runtime will be possible as of VC 7.1 EhP1 but not recommended due to the very limited set of available features that you can expose via XMLA.
