Can Rustbuster products be used with plastic pipes?
Plastic polybutylene pipes can be used to construct central heating systems. Be sure that they are of the oxygen barrier variety otherwise its going to be impossible to keep air out of the system. Often the joints are “push-fit” making it even more difficult to keep out air. It is therefore important to use plastic pipes in conjunction with a water treatment regime and Rustbuster products are your ideal partner. Chloride from fluxes can attack polybutylene so it’s important to use a cleaner such as Cleanser. Complete the treatment with Inhibitor to protect the metal components in the system. Please also be aware that polybutylene can harden and break-down if exposed to sunlight. They can also be stressed if subjected to sharp bends. Avoid these situations for best results.
