Can rosacea occur in children?
Rosacea can occur in childhood and typically presents as facial flushing in response to stress. It is rarely associated with the papules and pustules which are commonly seen in adults. There is some evidence that childhood styes, especially after age 10, are associated with a slightly increased risk of developing adult rosacea. Some children with styes may in fact have early ocular rosacea.
A. Although the incidence of rosacea in adolescents and children is infrequent, such cases have been documented in the medical literature. Eyelid styes may be one form. Rosacea often runs in families, and rosacea sufferers would be wise to be on the lookout for early signs in children in order to seek diagnosis and treatment before the condition worsens.
