Can Ron Paul actually win the Republican Nomination?
Dr. Paul like many of the candidates, both Republican and Democrat, are in the lower tier and don’t stand much of a chance in moving up into the top tier of likely candidates to secure the National ticket. The ability to reach out to the constituency and align with their core values are not the only basis for reaching this top tier. If it was aligning with the constituency values, not doubt Dr. Alan Keyes would be riding the top of the Republican tier – he is about as conservative as they get. Dr. Paul does not have the political infrastructure nor the name recognition to move into the top tier, which in the GOP lies with Gov. Romney, Gov. Guiliani, Sen. McCain, and Sen. Thompson (in order according to the latest polling data) at the moment. Of these four, Gov. Romney and Gov. Guiliani likely too much of a left leaning history to secure to ticket, so this leaves Sen.’s McCain and Thompson. Sen.
