Can Ribbon snakes coexist with any other reptiles? And can they be handled or will they bite?
A wild ribbon snake will usually bite whenever picked up. So will most any wild snake you pick up though. Usually with regular handling they will calm down in captivity though they are definitely not one of the most docile species. Expect to be putting up with musking… which isn’t pleasant. Some of the ribbons I’ve kept never stop biting even after being in captivity for months. Others calm down much better. Some subspecies are naturally more calm than others. I think easterns are much more calm than westerns but can’t say for certain. Don’t be put off of keeping them though. Some make fairly good pets and I had one that I kept for many years. It is possible to keep them with other small terrestrial snakes but I wouldn’t try with any larger colubrids or with any other reptiles or amphibians. They would likely eat a lizard or frog.
