Can reports come from sequential files as well as JES SYSOUTS?

Yes. JES2xxx runs in two modes. In JESWriter mode, reports are retrieved directly from JES and processed. In batch mode, reports are read from sequential files. Some users prefer to run JES2xxx as a jobstep in their jobs, especially, when they have job monitoring products that can check completion codes.
