“A couple of times a year” hardly qualifies as use. I think it depends on what drug we’re talking about. If you’re smoking marijuana twice a year, I don’t see how that would have an impact on anything. I don’t believe it’s a sure path to self-destruction or the “entrée” drug to an escalating pattern of use that will lead to life of dissolution and destruction. If it were, there’d be a lot more burn-outs on the street. I think with the “harder” drugs, or with more than moderate use of marijuana, you start to get on more iffy ground. Like anything that has the potential to be an addictive obsession, sometimes avoidance is the only path if there’s a risk of it getting out of control. If it starts to impact your relationships and your ability to meet your responsibilities, it’s a problem. If it monopolizes your thinking, it’s a problem.
