Can QD take advantage of external storage?
Yes. QD runs as an application on a desktop or laptop without regard for the type of storage that is used. If the application or the database itself is stored on a remote disk, via SAN, NAS, or other reliable network-based storage mechanism, there will be no impact on the functionality of QD. • Can QD compress data from data cubes? QD is designed to accept data from traditional 2-dimension database tables, rather than from 3- or more-dimension data cubes. However, QD can be used as the source data for a utility such as SAS that generates cubes. The utility can simply be pointed at the QDB instead of the usual data mart or warehouse, to generate the cube. What’s more, the cube will be generated far more quickly than it would without QD. Since QD dramatically compresses data, users may find that it’s not necessary to restrict users to the contents of data cubes and may instead prefer users to have a much larger portion of the available data.
