Can PV be used for heating pools or domestic hot water?

While it is technically possible to use electricity produced by a PV array to heat water, it does not make economic sense. If hot water is desired it can usually be produced cheaply by a solar thermal system (which uses heat absorbing panels filled with water or a glycol solution).
