Can Psychotherapy Help With Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, Depression, And Sexual Frustration?
Question submitted June 15, 2001: I believe that I have social anxiety disorder or some form of anxiety disorder, as I am extremely shy and have difficulty interacting with the opposite sex. I am also prone to extreme nervousness and panic attacks. I am wondering if you think that medication, such as Paxil, would be right for me? Could medication help with my sexual frustration? I get overly excited when I see attractive girls and I get nervous and fidgety. Is this related to my lack of sexual experience or just anxiety? Can therapy help me get over my anxiety and shyness and allow me to more easily pursue relationships? In the state that I’m in right now, I really don’t feel like I can do anything about a relationship, and I get really depressed about it. I have doubts about myself, and my low self esteem and self confidence always gets in the way. I have been feeling very suicidal lately as well, so this state is doing me no good at all.
