You can appeal your property taxes if you are the homeowner (principal residence) if you bought it directly from the previous owner, short sale or bank owned. Get your real estate agent to help you with comps in your area so you can have some documentation that proof that taxes should be lowered in comparison to the other homes. Ask directly in your township what forms you should fill out or deadlines to do it. Not everyone gets them lowered but some do. Good luck.
