Can prefinished flooring be refinished?
All prefinished flooring will one day end up site-finished. Now a serious word of caution here. There could be high levels of heavy metals in some of these unregulated imports. They must never be sanded!!! The finish needs to be tested in a lab before you alter anything on that floor. The life and health of you and your loved ones, as well as all the successive owners of that home could be in danger. This is no joking matter! It isn’t only children’s toy industry that has encountered this problem. But not all imports are sub-standard or a health risk. We carry several fine products from China or South America that adhere to all our standards and are strictly monitored, including human rights and protection of endangered species. Since the North American manufacturers have to adhere to a very strict standards, such as the EPA and other health quality controls, their prefinished floors are safe to sand and refinish.
