Can poly-orthophosphate stain a teakettle?
Question I have an electric jug teakettle and it is very orange in side, the local water dept. said it is from a treatment in the water called Ployorthophosphate. Do you think this is right, as it never comes completely clean when I clean it, I have used CLF and boiled it a couple of times and it still remains very orange. Answer The information I have on poly-orthophosphate is that it is used to inhibit corrosion by creating a coating on pipe walls and helps to prevent lead and copper from entering the water. Without specific knowledge of your tea kettle construction materials, I would say it is possible the additive could cause a permanent discoloration.
