Can police trace a cell phone even if it is turned off?
No, a call has to be connected to it A lot of time in law enforcement shows, you have to remain on the line for atleast 30 seconds in order for police to trace the call but in actuality, they only need the call to go through and they can instantly trace it But yes, the phone has to be on and someone has to answer it for any tracing to be done (:
Ok from my experience in the cell phone business I worked for a company for 6 months in their law enforcement dept. You do not have to make a call with the phone it simply has to be turned on and it can be tracked with the new phone with in the last 2 years active gps is a standard feature on most phones it allows special features on the phone to work it also helps with the e911 gps system which is not always active but yes most phones now a days can be tracked without placing a call jsut simply being turned on some are accurate with in a few feet others accurate to 50-100 feet.
Lol two blondes over there are super funny. 1- Every cellular telephone is a physical locating device! 2 – This is generally true even when the user is not in a call. The phone need merely be switched on. 3 – Location tracking is inherent in the way cellular telephones work. The network needs to know (approximately) where you are in order to do its job. There is no known way to avoid revealing your location when you use a cell phone. 4 – Law enforcement would dearly love to get their hands on location information.
