He’s in the later stages of his career. His offensive production is down. And he never really had a decent arm. However, no matter how you cut it, the Padres picked up an incredible talent who, on his bad days, can outshine many younger players. Yes, his knees have taken a beating and his bat may have lost some punch, but Padres pitching coach Darren Balsley is thrilled with the signing. “A lot of players that nearing the end of their careers put up some great numbers,” said Balsley.
