Can permanent marker be washed if it is on fabric?

On One Hand: If You Want the Marks to StayIf you want the permanent marker to stay on your fabric (such as with signed T-shirts), wash the fabric by hand in cold water. Use as little soap and agitation as possible–a good idea is to hold the stained area under the cold tap and let the running water do the work for you.On the Other: Removing Permanent MarkerFirst, try pre-treating the area with a commercial pre-treater such as Spray n’ Wash. If that doesn’t work, try rubbing alcohol, WD-40, or plain white toothpaste. Hand sanitizer gel can also work if dabbed on with a cotton swab. Don’t agitate the fabric too much or you’ll cause pilling. Leave the solvents on for 10 minutes, then wash as usual.Bottom LineTreat desired marks such as signatures with delicacy. To remove unwanted marks, alcohol- or oil-based solvents are your best bet.
