Can Pepto-Bismol prevent or reduce diarrhea?

0

The active ingredient in Pepto-Bismol is Bismuth Subsalicylate. Pepto stimulates the intestines to absorb more water from your stool (antisecretory) so that your stools become bulky and not so watery. Pepto also binds the toxins caused by E.coli. While indicated on the bottle that it is for Heartburn and Indigestion, it actually has VERY weak antacid properties. A lot of people I know end up vomiting from taking Pepto for indigestion. Mylanta works much better for heartburn. Just be sure to refrigerate it first. It will taste much better. I hope that helps.
