Can people with aspergers social skills improve?
Some people obviously can benefit from social skills instruction and some can’t. Most Asperger’s kids who are quite involved go to programs that include mainstreaming and a co-teacher or resource teacher who works them through problems as they arise and teach coping skills. This is really dependent on the severity of the Asperger’s because there are varying degrees. More high functioning people can get some of it on their own, whereas severely impacted students may end up having to live in group homes their whole lives because they just can’t get it. And in between are the kids that are helped by social behavior training.
