Can people really be allergic to spit and saliva?
Generally speaking, if the immune system is over-active, it is possible to get an allergic reaction to saliva as well, depending which “active” ingredients this saliva has at any given moment and if one has an allergy towards it. The best thing to do here is a thorough allergy test to become aware of the problem and would also take care of a candida infection which could cause an allergic reaction. There might also be a psychological issue with saliva and especially spitting in public which is also a hygiene issue. On one hand this is behavior that just isn’t socially acceptable anymore and on the other hand, if you see somebody spitting, you can’t tell them off. I myself feel very nauseous if I see somebody spitting or a dog slobbering and if possible I will ask at least the person not to do it in front of me and if it’s a dog, well, I try to go the other way.
