Can people cook the fresh spinach or salad blends containing fresh spinach?
If you have fresh spinach, and you are not sure where it was grown, the best advice is to throw it out. Although E. coli O157:H7 in spinach can be killed by cooking at 160 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 seconds, you would also have to avoid cross-contamination of the fresh spinach with other foods and food preparation surfaces, and carefully wash your hands, utensils, and surfaces with hot, soapy water before and after handling the spinach. Better to throw it out!
