Can Paul Williams bring popularity back to American Boxing?
The question is asked, it’s simple. A few thought though. I was VERY impressed with Williams, and I admit I underestimated the guy bigtime, probably because of the Quintana fight, where he was punished for his mistakes. But he made the necessary adjustments, and it seems the higher weight division he fights at, the better he looks. Saturday’s performance vs. Winky Wright was much more impressive than the fight he put on vs. Margarito. With Hopkins being close to finally retire, it’s pretty clear to me that Paul Williams is the best fighter the US boxing scene has to offer today, and I see years of strong performances in him, although he needs a very good team to be able to get the most significant fights he deserves. Imagine this: cause of his amazing physical abilities to go up and down in weight, guys are on the table from PacMan, Hatton, Cotto, Mosley and Mayweather to Pavlik, Abraham, Kessler, Bute, Taylor and maybe Hopkins and Jones, from 147 to 168.
