Can parents with different parenting styles live together?
My husband and I have slightly different ideas about parenting, but are at least in the same ballpark. It concerns me that your partner says things will change “dramatically.” Kids don’t change “dramatically” because someone who’s not their father says so. You’re going to have to find a middle ground somewhere. A seven year old running on a sofa is really unacceptable. But I can’t figure out what’s wrong with sitting on the stairs. Whatever, it doesn’t matter. I suggest that you meet with a counsellor BEFORE you live together so that the two of you can sort out what your differences are and make some strategies for how you’re going to deal with those differences. You’ll also have to settle on how you’re going to set baseline rules for behaviour, who’s going to discipline whom and how.
