Can palladium goods be hallmarked before 1st January 2010?

0

Yes. Palladium is outside the scope of the Hallmarking Act therefore none of the provisions apply to anything that is made of palladium. This means that people can choose to mark palladium articles however they like (provided they don’t breach any other legislation on misleading advertising, etc) and there is nothing to stop them adding a palladium hallmark if they so wish. Such goods may be traded normally before 1st January 2010. Until the specific offence provisions of the Hallmarking Act apply on 1st January, trading is protected by the provisions of the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 No 1277. After 1st January these goods may continue to be traded normally because they are classed as exempt items. New buyers, however, might require proof of purchase with a date before 1st January 2010.
