Can ozone be harmful?
According to research, at very high concentrations, ozone can be a lung irritant. Our ionic air purifiers should not be confused with ozone generators that hardly produce any negative ions. Our units will not create ozone levels higher than 0.04 ppm (parts per million), which is well within the FDA and OSHA safety standards and at levels shown to have beneficial effects against odors and microorganisms. Ozone at levels between 0.10 and 0.20 ppm will cause a bleach smell, and can cause respiratory discomfort; however, even at that level scientific studies show they do not pose a long term health problem. The good news is that ozone is self-policing in that it gives off an obnoxious, bleach smell well before reaching even the 0.10 ppm mark and if you buy the Surround Air XJ-2000, this will all be a non-issue. The following test results were published by Russian scientists studying to see how effective ozone was at improving indoor air quality in schools. Respiratory related illness was d
