Can Our Symbols Be Converted to the KPIcon Format?
A. Perhaps. The KPIcon format was established as a User-oriented format – the amount of detail, the layer organization, the attribute structure, etc., all of these charactersitics are designed to maximize their usefulness to the people that use them – Food Facility Designers and CAD operators. If a manufacturer has developed a 3D symbol library, we will, of course, try to utilize those symbols in developing an AutoMATE KPIcon version of their symbol library. That may invlolve only changing the layers of various entities and adding Utility Connection attributes and Material and Finish codes. Oftentimes, however, it may require more work to convert 3D Symbols generated by Solid Model CAD programs than to create the new symbols from scratch. The 3D symbols may, however, be useful as a guide for basically ‘tracing’ the new symbols.
